Kitty Wong, Current Student

A report from a current student at Whistler Village

Hello everyone, my name is Kitty Wong; I am currently a student at IHMC.

I am currently working at the Winter Olympics in Whistler, and am working as a Screener. My main working areas are at the Olympic Village and the Welcome Center at Olympic Village, which is where all the athletes and coaches live.

My job as a Screener is to check all incoming guests to the Olympic Village, to see if they have prohibited items. I have a few positions at the Village. These include being a Wander, a Pacer, a Bag Searcher (Back Operator), a Body Searcher, and First Operator.

My job descriptions are as follows:

A Wander is someone who holds up the metal detector wand to search for any metals hiding on the guest's body.

A Pacer is to give instruction to the wander that guests can walk through the big metal detector.

A Bag Searcher is actually an assistant to the X-ray Operator; we get a signal from the X-ray Operator if we search the guest bags, coats, or even a box that has been put though the x-ray machine.

A Body Searcher is actually called "physical body search". I search the guest's body after it has been wanded. The most I've done in a physical search is the guest's feet and their shoes.

And for the last one: First Operator is where I stand in front of the x-ray machine and have some trays out. I ask for guests to empty all their pockets, take off their jacket, hoods, and place their bags in to the tray to go though the x-ray machine.

I rotate through these various positions all the time.

It is really a good experience to be involved in this special event. I will be sure to update and share more of what's happening in the Olympic Village.

THANKS EVERYONE!
