The World's Richest Vintage

2005 Bordeaux release in Vancouver this Saturday, Oct 4.

"The world is a little crazy," marveled one négociant, who wished to remain anonymous. "It really is hard to believe, but we are talking about a lot of money. We can't afford to have the wines stolen en route to our cellars. You lose a truckload of first-growths, or something like Pétrus, and you lose millions."

The 2005 Bordeaux vintage, widely heralded by experts as legendary, is the result of near-perfect winemaking weather. In fact, wine critics worldwide are hailing the 2005 vintage in Bordeaux as one of the very best in history, eclipsing those of 2000 and 1982 – one would probably have to recall 1961 to find a better-quality year. Esteemed wine critic Robert Parker claims, "Tasting the 2005 red wines from the bottle, many of them three or four times, confirmed that this is the greatest vintage produced during my 30-year career."

We are organizing an event for those interested in participating in the Bordeaux release event in Vancouver, like a serious local wine collector, to see how it is all done to purchase Bordeaux wine in BC. For those who do not know, Bordeaux is indeed the premier wine region in France, and the 2005 vintage is one of the best in this century.

Due to the limited supply in Vancouver, collectors actually have to line up overnight to fight for the limited stock. See this article from the BC Liquor Stores web page for additional information.

The quick rundown:

• Spending 12 hours in the cold in front of the door at the 39th & Cambie liquor store.

• This coming Friday 9:30pm to Saturday 9:30am.

• Camping gear and food supplies, including the school van will be provided.

• Minimum of 4 students needed to make this happen, to form teams to take turns resting.

• Pre-event preparation includes Bordeaux education session on Thursday and Friday afternoons. You will be exempted from your regular class.

• Post-event celebration includes sampling matured bottles of top Bordeaux fine wines, that are worth hundreds of dollars, from a private cellar.
