Vancouver Chefs visiting Daniel, NYC

famous local restaurant names you should know about

If ever there was doubt that Vancouver's finest chefs can mix it up with the best of the best, that notion was put to rest for good over a grand lunch on Friday in a lovely dining room on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

It was here, at the famed New York restaurant Daniel, that more than 100 representatives of the New York press -- RSVPs included media celebs like Martha Stewart and Al Roker, the James Beard Foundation and premier publications like Vanity Fair, Bon Appetit, People, The New York Times and Zagat -- discovered the Vancouver culinary wonders that are Hidekazu Tojo of Tojo's, Pino Posteraro of Cioppino's, Vikram Vij of Vij's and Thomas Haas of Thomas Haas Chocolates.

The four influential Vancouver chefs, an eclectic and energetic stew of Japanese, Italian, Indian and German humour, sensibility and cooking genius, were in town to show off their skills and claim Vancouver's spot on the international map of haute cuisine, here at the invitation of renowned New York chef/restaurateur Daniel Boulud, and his new business partners David and Manjy Sidoo of Vancouver's own acclaimed Lumiere restaurant.
